Kahrs Oak Linen is a really rustic and charismatic floor. Light smoking of the oak and a subtle white wash gives the floor a unique and complex colour tone with wispy whites, ashy greys and delicate blue hues all blended in amongst the natural oak. Brushing enhances the natural texture of the wood, hand-scraping enhances the worn, vintage appearance of the floor and a nature oil finish provides protection against wear and tear without compromising the colour or feel of the oak.
Kahrs recommend an extra coat of oil is applied to the floor, once laid, to seal into the joints. You can re-oil the floor at any point, to breath new life into the boards, top-up the surface layer protection, and restore the natural beauty of the oak. We can supply cans of the Kahrs Satin Oil here. Simply pour a little oil on to the Oak Linen boards and mop in for an even coverage.
The Kahrs Linen is a 1-strip floor, meaning the full width of each plank is made from a single strip of oak, and each board measures 1900 x 190 x 15mm. 4-Sided bevelling adds depth to the edges of the boards when laid to give that full plank look and feel.
The Kahrs Oak Linen floor has a click-joint for quick and easy installation. The Woodloc® 5G click-joint allows each board to click and lock snugly into place beside its neighbour, for a rigid, strong and gap-free floor, with no adhesive needed. It can be installed as a floating floor, with underlay to provide acoustic and thermal insulation as well as a built-in damp proof membrane. Kahrs Oak Earth flooring can also be glued-down in situations where this is a preferable installation method.
The innovative multi-layer floor construction, invented by Kahrs back in 1941, creates a real oak floor, that is far more durable, flexible and sustainable than if hardwood was used throughout the board construction from top to bottom. Faster growing softwoods like spruce and pine are used in the lower, unseen layers of the floor. These softwoods are not as reactive to moisture and temperature as hardwoods like Oak and Walnut, but are also more flexible, which means the Kahrs Oak Linen can expand and contract naturally through the changing of the seasons without it undermining the strength of the planks. It also makes the floor suitable for use with underfloor heating, and makes more efficient and environmentally friendly use of the slower growing, more valuable hardwood trees like Oak.
With a 3.5mm wear-layer, the Linen floorboards can be re-sanded 2 – 3 times in their lifetime and the floor comes with a 30 year manufacturers guarantee. This is a premium quality oak floor that will stand the test of time and give a stunning natural beauty to your home.
